PHOENIX — Phoenix police were searching for a person who allegedly shot and killed a dog earlier this month.
On March 12, a pit bull was found seriously injured from a gunshot wound. The dog ultimately did not survive the injury.
There was a $1,000 reward listed for information that would lead to the arrest or indictment of the suspect of the crime. Investigators need the public’s help to figure out who did this and why it occurred.
A person of interest was seen leaving the area. The individual was described as a female in her early 40s with blonde or red hair.
Witnesses observed a silver two-door coupe leaving the area. The person of interest was behind the wheel.
The incident happened on Seventh Avenue between Happy Valley and Pinnacle Peak roads.
A person charged of animal cruelty in Arizona could be subject to a misdemeanor or felony crime. Depending on the incident, the crime is punishable by up to two years in prison.
An Arizona bill that has passed the state Senate and is still being decided on in the House would expand the definition of animal cruelty. The bill would also increase the punishment in some cases from a Class 6 felony to a Class 5 felony.
Anyone with information on the incident was encouraged to contact Silent Witness at 480-948-6377 or submit a tip online at silentwitness.org.
