Wrong-way driver killed in wreck on Red Mountain 202 in Mesa

PHOENIX – A wrong-way collision in Mesa claimed the life of one person and injured another early Saturday morning.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, a vehicle was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes on the Red Mountain 202 near the Loop 101 around 4 a.m. Saturday morning when it collided with another vehicle.
The wrong-way driver was pronounced dead at the scene while the other driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The westbound lanes were closed following the incident, as traffic was diverted to the north or southbound Loop 101.
The freeway was reopened around 6 a.m.
