PHOENIX – The Institute of International Education named Tuesday the University of Arizona and Arizona State University as top producers of Fulbright students for the 2017-18 school year.
According to the Fulbright program, 12 students from the University of Arizona and 14 from Arizona State received Fulbright awards for the current academic year, placing the two universities among the top 45 research universities in the U.S.
The Fulbright Student Program was funded by the U.S. Department and State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, providing grants for individually designed research projects and English teaching assistantships in more than 140 countries.
The program was founded in 1946 with an effort to increase a mutual understanding between students from the U.S. and other countries through an exchange program.
In order for a university to receive recognition, at least 10 students have to receive the grant in a single school year.
The UA is preparing for its Fulbright Week, which kicks off on March 19 and lasts until March 23.
Representatives from the Graduate College, Honors College and Office of Global Initiatives offer information sessions and one-on-one advising sessions throughout the week for any students interested in joining the Fulbright program.
Arizona State’s Fulbright Day will be held on Wednesday, March 21.
