PHOENIX — A driver making a wrong turn ended up needing a big assist from the Phoenix Fire Department when she drove into canal Wednesday morning.
A firefighter made his way to the small white SUV that was sitting in water that reached the bottom of the door in the canal near 32nd Street and Lincoln Drive around 6 a.m.
He strapped the woman into safety ropes and guided her out of the vehicle. She suffered no serious injury.
The rest of the crew had extended a ladder from the car to the embankment.
The woman was able to make her way up the ladder on her own.
She told authorities she had made a wrong turn and had tried to go back in the other direction.
Instead she rolled into the water.
A department representative said in an emaile the woman was looked over by medical personnel and that she refused further treatment.
