PHOENIX — Chicago was ranked as the best city in the nation to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, according to a recent report.

But how did Chicago West — a.k.a. Phoenix — fare in comparison? Not well, it seemed.

According to WalletHub, Phoenix barely cracked the top 100 cities in the U.S. to celebrate the Irish holiday, coming in at No. 96.

In fact, the best Arizona city to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day was Chandler. However, Chandler did not fare all too well either: The Phoenix suburb came in at sixty-third in the nation.

Following behind Chandler included cities such as Peoria (No. 68), Gilbert (No. 77) and Scottsdale (No. 102).

Tucson, Tempe and Glendale all fell further down the list, coming in at Nos. 117, 121 and 155, respectively.

Mesa also was found to have one of the fewest Irish pubs and restaurants per Capita, while Phoenix had the fewest St. Patrick’s Day parties and festivals per Capita.

But two Arizona cities were recognized for some good things: Gilbert had the third-lowest crime rate in the U.S. and Scottsdale had the fourth-best weather forecast in the nation for the holiday.

With an Irish population of about 16.4 percent, or about 39,000 people, according to Chicago Tribune, it’s easy to see why Chicago takes the top spot for St. Patrick’s Day.

Boston, Philadelphia, Buffalo and New York City rounded out the top five cities in the U.S. to celebrate the holiday. On the other end of the spectrum included three California cities: Pomona, San Bernardino and Moreno Valley.
