PHOENIX — More than 2,200 people across the globe are members of the three-comma club, otherwise known as billionaires, according to Forbes’ 2018 list.
But only 11 of those people call Arizona home.
Arizona’s billionaires fall quite low on the list of worldwide billionaires.
The Arizona resident who ranked the highest on the list was Mark Shoen, who owns roughly one-fifth of U-Haul’s parent company Amerco, through a limited partnership called Willow Grove.
The 67-year-old, according to the publication, has a net worth of $3.2 billion. He was ranked as No. 729 richest billionaire in the world.
Shoen also found himself in good company: All of the billionaires in Arizona are men ranging from 60 to 80 years old.
The richest person in the world was — perhaps, not surprisingly — Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, who is worth $112 billion. Microsoft founder Bill Gates followed shortly behind, at $90 billion.
The rich are also getting richer: The world’s most wealthy are worth $9.1 trillion, up 18 percent from last year. The richest 20 people alone are worth $1.2 trillion, “a sum roughly equivalent to the annual economic output of Mexico.”
But not everyone had a good year: President Donald Trump was among the 16 percent of billionaires who lost money. His fortune currently stands at $3.1 billion and was ranked No. 766 in the world.
Here are the rest of the billionaires in Arizona, according to Forbes.
