Teen faces terrorism charge for threats against Chandler school

PHOENIX – A teenager was arrested and charged with one count of terrorism for allegedly making threats against Chandler High School, police announced Friday.
According to a release, the 16-year-old was a student at the school and had plotted to commit acts of violence using explosives and firearms.
Police were made aware of the possible threat to the school on Feb. 28. An investigation was launched and several people with knowledge of the threat were interviewed by police.
The teen admitted to having made the threats when interviewed by detectives.
The juvenile was booked into the Maricopa County Juvenile Detention Center on Thursday, and was charged with one count of terrorism, a Class 2 felony.
Chandler police said they have worked closely with Chandler Unified School District Administrators to ensure the safety of the students, and at no time did they believe there were any threats to the school.
