PHOENIX — Drivers who are planning on using Phoenix-area freeways during the March 2 weekend will run into several restrictions, including one freeway ramp that will soon be permanently closed.
According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, the westbound Interstate 10 will be narrowed to three lanes between 43rd and 59th avenues from 10 p.m. on Friday to 10 a.m. on Saturday for exit ramp work near the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway interchange.
This closure will allow crews to remove barrier and replace signage.
The westbound I-10 off-ramp at 59th Avenue will be permanently closed late Friday night to accommodate the Loop 202 interchange, the department announced.
As an alternative, motorists should exit the freeway at 67th Avenue until the westbound I-10 off-ramp at 51st Avenue reopens by 10 a.m. on Saturday. It was closed for five weeks to widen, realign and repave the ramp.
The I-10 eastbound off-ramp at 67th Avenue and I-10 eastbound on-ramp at 51st Avenue will remain closed. They are set to reopen by April 2 and March 17, respectively.
The northbound Loop 101 off- and on-ramps at Peoria Avenue will also be closed from 9 p.m. on Friday to noon on Sunday for pavement improvements. Peoria Avenue will be narrowed to one lane in both directions between 91st and 95th avenues during the same time.
The eastbound Loop 202 will be narrowed to one lane overnight between Higley and Power roads in Mesa from 10 p.m. on Saturday to 3:30 a.m. on Sunday for temporary barrier-wall removal.
