PHOENIX — An elderly man died Wednesday after being hit by a car on the sidewalk outside of a Safeway grocery store in Scottsdale one day prior.
The Scottsdale Police Department said 81-year-old Michael Ebertin was hospitalized after the collision outside of the store near 74th Street and Shea Boulevard but succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.
Police were still investigating the Tuesday collision, when an SUV being driven by a 70-year-old woman hit two men — including Ebertin.
It was unknown why she drove onto the sidewalk, but it was not believed impairment was a factor. The car stopped just short of the building.
The men were both taken to the hospital. The elderly passenger was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
The uninjured driver was evaluated on scene but refused any further treatment. She was cooperating with police.
