PHOENIX — Two parents with their child in the car were allegedly caught smuggling a tire full of methamphetamine at the Arizona-Mexico border.
Customs and Border Patrol said the 22-year-old driver was crossing the border into the United States in Nogales on Friday when agents asked him to pull over for a secondary inspection.
Agents searched the car after a drug-sniffing dog alerted to it. They eventually found more than six pounds of the drug inside a spare tire in the trunk.
The drugs have a street value of more than $22,000. They were seized.
The driver and a 24-year-old woman in the car were both arrested on drug smuggling charges. They are both United States citizens who live in the Phoenix area.
Their names were not released.
The 4-year-old child was released to a family member.
