PHOENIX — Dutch Bros, a coffee chain taking Arizona by storm, will open a location in the southern part of Phoenix on Saturday morning and raise some money for a local high school.
The location was expected to begin serving thirsty and under-caffeinated customers at 5 a.m. Saturday near 32nd Street and Chandler Boulevard in the Ahwatukee neighborhood.
It will be offering 16-ounce drinks for just $1 and will donate proceeds to Desert Vista High School, located about one mile away.
Other fundraisers held at Dutch Bros coffeehouses have raised thousands for schools or charities.
The chain’s Facebook post about the location was met with a lot of excitement and, judging by the amount of responses it got, those baristas will be kept busy until the lights turn off at 11 p.m.
Dutch Bros has more than 20 locations in Arizona. The chain began in Oregon but has expanded to seven states.
It is best known for good coffee served by enthusiastic baristas. Unlike Starbucks, Dutch Bros does not have a lobby area and instead operates solely as a drive-through.
