PHOENIX — A bill introduced in the Arizona House of Representatives aims to provide teachers with money to help relieve some of the burden of buying costly school supplies.
House Bill 2373 was introduced on Jan. 17. It was most recently reviewed by the Appropriations committee on Feb. 14, according to public records.
The bill would “grant school districts and charter schools money to give each teacher $150,” KJZZ reported.
Rep. Kirsten Engel (D-Tucson), the bill’s sponsor, told the radio station that the bill would be a “relatively small cost” that the state would shell out to help teachers.
Engel added that teachers often spend $500 or more on school supplies each year, “buying those pencil sharpeners and extra notebook paper and construction paper and things you just need to teach our kids basic subjects in school.
“This provides much needed assistance to our teachers, and through them, to our kids,” she said.
