PHOENIX — It wasn’t your imagination, Phoenix: Wednesday morning certainly was a cold one.

The National Weather Service said it recorded a low of 39 degrees in Phoenix overnight, making it the second-coldest day of this winter and a pretty darn good excuse to grab a scarf or some mittens.

The city saw the same low on Dec. 23.

The coldest morning so far this winter was one day prior, when the mercury bottomed out at a brisk 36 degrees.

It looked like this week’s cooler temperatures will continue for at least a few more days. The overnight low going into Thursday and Friday should hover about 40 degrees, while Saturday morning should dawn with a low near 38 degrees.

The chilly mornings were courtesy of a combination of two storm fronts, one of which brought in breezy conditions on Monday.

The second front was expected to move into the Phoenix area on Friday and will bring with it a 20 percent chance of showers that will dwindle going into Saturday.

Daytime highs have also been brought down by the two fronts. This week should not get any warmer than 63 degrees — about seven degrees below normal — but highs should be closer to the average starting early next week.

We want to hear from you.
