PHOENIX — A new study on diversity centered on the millennial generation, shows that America is becoming more diverse than it ever was before.

The study, published by The Brookings Institution, shows that among the millennial population in the two largest metropolitan areas in Arizona, Whites no longer make up a majority of the population. In Phoenix, Whites make up only 47.8 percent of the population while in Tucson, Whites account for just 43.5 percent.

As a nation, Whites make up 55.8 percent of the millennial population, which is a nearly 20 percent difference from people aged 55 or older. That group of seniors is comprised of a 75 percent White population.

Hispanics have made the most profound gains in terms of percentage of population. Nationwide, Hispanics make up 20.8 percent of the millennial population while in Phoenix they make up 36.6 percent of all millennials.

In Tucson, Hispanics make up 42.9 percent and are just a mere 0.6 percent away from becoming the largest demographic in the city.

The study also shows charts and graphs on education attainment, homeownership, poverty and marital status broken down by race among millenials.

Those charts show that among Asian millennials, less than 10 percent have been divorced, separated or widowed and less than 80 percent of the Hispanic population finished high school.
