PHOENIX — A 16-year-old high school student was arrested on Thursday after he allegedly brought a loaded handgun to Sierra Linda High School.
According to Sgt. Alan Pfohl with the Phoenix Police Department, campus security received a tip from another student that the unidentified male had the handgun in his possession while at school.
The student told police officers during questioning that he had the weapon for personal security only and had no issues with anyone at the school.
He has since been detained at the Juvenile Correctional Center.
Sierra Linda High School is located near Lower Buckeye Road and 67th Avenue in the West Valley.
The incident came on the same day that an 18-year-old Chaparral High School student was arrested for allegedly having a handgun in his car, which was parked on campus.
