PHOENIX — The wait is over.

After nearly two decades of taking the stage, the Grammy-winning alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins is going back on tour.

And the Chicago-based band is kicking off its tour in no other than — the Valley.

That’s right: The “Shiny and Oh So Bright” tour is kicking off at Gila River Arena in Glendale on July 12.

According to The Guardian, most of the music performed on the tour will be from the pre-2000s, from Gish through their high-concept double-record Machina/Machina II.

In a statement to the publication, founding member Billy Corgan said the show and staging will be “unlike any we’ve ever done and will feature a set unlike any we’ve ever played.”

“For if this is a chance at a new beginning, we plan on ushering it in with a real bang,” he said.

Corgan and other founding members Jimmy Chamberlin and James Iha will go on tour, but the band’s bassist, D’Arcy Wretzky, will not be joining the North American tour.

Wretzky gave an interview last week with the website BlastEcho. She claimed Corgan approached her with a contract offer but later rescinded it, saying it “wasn’t a real offer.”

The “Shiny and Oh So Bright” tour will also be touring in nearby Los Angeles, San Diego and Las Vegas. Tickets will go on sale on Feb. 23 at 10 a.m. Arizona time.

We want to hear from you.
