PHOENIX — Wednesday brought the first measurable rain the Phoenix area has seen in more than a month, the National Weather Service said.

As of 4 p.m., Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport had received nearly two-tenths of an inch of rain. It was the first time the weather service had recorded the wet stuff since Jan. 10.

Rain gauges operated by the Maricopa County Flood Control District showed the north and east Valley received more rainfall than the west.

Another area that received good rainfall was near the Scottsdale and Tempe border, just north of the Loop 202, where nearly two-tenths of an inch of rain fell.

Areas near Carefree and the McDowell Mountain Regional Park received more than one-tenth of an inch.

The weather service said the rain also brought cooler weather to the Valley, as the mercury topped out at just 61 degrees.

The rain was expected to continue overnight, giving lovebirds an excuse to snuggle under the blankets on Valentine’s Day. The low should drop to 53 degrees.

Thursday was expected to be slightly chillier, as the high should be in the mid-60s.

The chance for more rain will dwindle as the day goes on and the weather system should move out of the area by Friday morning.

However, the rain appeared to have set up a beautiful weekend: Highs should be in the mid-70s with a slight breeze.

We want to hear from you.
