PHOENIX — An all-female prison outside Phoenix will host a special TEDx event in April, pulling back the curtain to reveal the lives of incarcerated women.
On April 19, the Perryville correctional facility in Goodyear, Ariz., will hold a series of speakers from the Phoenix area, as well as female inmates, to discuss the “brains, beauty and business” of incarcerated women.
“We’ve all experienced some sort of prejudice in our lives and we’ve focused our theme to look behind the curtain and see the good that comes from someone’s journey of transformation,” said TEDxPerryvilleCorrectional Conference Co-Organizer Michelle Cirocco in a release.
The speakers and presenters intend to challenge the open minds of listeners, according to the event’s website: Do they only judge a book by their cover?
We’ll address topics surrounding societal issues, education and family. What impact has drugs had on someone? What are the lessons learned through the hard times? The good? Through it all we’ll show the transformation and incredible journeys that are taking place before our eyes.
The TEDxPerryvilleCorrectional talk is an independent TED event that is invite-only.
