PHOENIX — A former adviser to President Donald Trump said a memo alleging improper surveillance by the FBI was bigger than the causes of the American revolution.

Sebastian Gorka told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Arizona’s Morning News that the memo alleged the Department of Justice and FBI used false information to get surveillance warrants to spy on then-candidate Donald Trump’s campaign.

“That makes the cause of the American Revolution look like a small incident in a kindergarten playground,” he said.

Republicans have suggested the four-page memo written by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-California) showed some in the Justice Department and FBI have conspired against President Donald Trump.

Gorka said the document essentially proved former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton was given a pass by then-FBI Director James Comey when it came to the investigation into her use of a private email server.

“That is the definition … of obstruction of justice and that is a felony to be prosecuted.”

Democrats and other officials have pushed back against the potential release of the memo, saying it could compromise the intelligence community and was only designed to discredit special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the election.

Gorka said the memo should be released so the public can decide.

“What do they have to hide? Let it all out,” he said. “Let the American people judge but [the Democrats] don’t want to, because they are complicit in a cover-up.”
