PHOENIX — Data from last year showed that Arizonans did not use all of their vacation days and it may have cost the state economy billions of dollars.
The report, done by Project: Time Off, found that 41 percent of employees in Arizona had unused vacation days last year. The number even reached 44 percent in Phoenix.
While this is actually below the national average of 54 percent, it still had a significant impact on the state economy.
The study said that there were 11.43 million total unused vacation days in Arizona, which equated to $3.2 billion in untapped economic benefits for the state.
Debbie Johnson, director of the Arizona Office of Tourism, said Arizonans should use those days off to help the state economy.
“Take a four-day weekend,” Johnson told the Phoenix Business Journal “Go to someplace in Arizona you’ve never been.”
Project: Time Off said that the unused days may be attributed to the negative messages or stigmas about stepping away from the office.
To combat these stigmas and to try to get people to use their vacation days, Project: Time Off planned a National Plan For Vacation Day on Jan. 30. They even created a planning tool to help you.
