PHOENIX — A national anti-abortion group has placed Arizona at the top of its annual list of states that have the best pro-life policies.
The Virginia-based Americans United for Life released its rankings late last week. They were based on a “…comprehensive analysis of each state’s legal protections for human life from conception to natural death.”
The Center for Arizona Policy, one of the state’s most prominent conservative groups, praised the news in a press release.
“This designation only happens because Arizona citizens elect policymakers who stand for the lives of preborn children and their mothers,” the statement said.
“On behalf of those citizens, we especially thank those pro-life legislators, former Gov. Jan Brewer and current Gov. Doug Ducey for keeping their commitments.”
It was the first time Arizona had been placed atop the rankings. Last year, the state came in fifth.
The Grand Canyon State was followed by Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Kansas in this year’s rankings.
Washington was ranked as the worst state for pro-life policies for the ninth consecutive year. Joining it at the bottom of the list were California, Vermont, New Jersey and Oregon.
