PHOENIX – Popular ride service Lyft added $59 million to the Phoenix economy in 2017, according to an Economic Impact Report released by the company on Thursday.

Lyft’s report showed that nearly 50 percent of passengers in Phoenix spent more time and money at local businesses knowing they have a reliable ride home.

According to the Phoenix Business Journal, Lyft grew to reach nearly 95 percent of the U.S. population by the end of 2017, a massive growth from the 54 percent rate at the beginning of the year.

Lyft’s growth and impact on the U.S. population is shown in the report, as well as how the company impacts the areas it operates.

The Phoenix Business Journal highlights the findings of Land Econ Group, which showed that Lyft passengers saved over 2,700,000 hours of travel. In total, the hours saved equated to nearly $78,000,000.

“The ability to connect people to the local businesses in their community is what makes Lyft so special,” Drena Kusari, Lyft Southwest region general manager told the Phoenix Business Journal. “Every day, people are accessing new areas of their city in ways they haven’t before, making their daily travels quicker, and are continuing to invest in their cities.”

Along with Phoenix, the report examined 52 metropolitan regions across the country. The 2017 study focused on travel habits, driver and passenger communities and behavior change.
