A good Samaritan got hurt trying to stop a shoplifter.

“He didn’t want this guy to get away with it,” Phoenix Police Sgt. Jamie Rothschild said.

On Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, a man pulled up to the curb at the Home Depot near 43rd Avenue and Camelback Road. He was driving an older, oxidized green Ford F-150.

“He goes inside the store,” Rothschild said. “He shoplifts four power tool kits and made no effort to pay for them then heads out to his vehicle. But somebody saw him do this and jumped into the bed of the pickup trying to stop the theft.”

But the thief spotted him, got out of the truck and assaulted the victim with a piece of wood before driving off.

While police say the actions of the good Samaritan are certainly understandable, they’d rather you just be a good witness. Get descriptions and a license plate number.

Our next case happened near 38th Street and Bell Road at Extra Space Storage.

Rothschild said at 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29 2017, a mid-1990s red Ford Explorer went into the gated storage yard using a vendor’s code.

“We have video of the Explorer driving in then, a little while later, driving out again pulling a box trailer,” he said.

A full box trailer that doesn’t belong to them.

“They may not have realized that it contained about $20,000 worth of cooking equipment,” Rothschild said. “So the question becomes, what are they doing with that?”
