PHOENIX — A 16-year-old teenager was killed early Thursday morning when the car he was driving struck a light pole in Scottsdale and the vehicle was torn in half.
The Scottsdale Police Department said crash happened about 1 a.m. near Scottsdale and Doubletree Ranch roads. The teenager was driving northbound on Scottsdale Road when he hit the pole.
The car hit the pole so hard that it was split in half, with the each half resting several feet apart.
Police said speed was a factor in the crash.
Scottsdale Road was closed for several hours in the area while the scene was cleaned up. The northbound lanes were expected to be restricted Thursday so crews could repair the pole.
