PHOENIX — Police in Chandler have arrested a woman who told emergency dispatch she had strangled her mother.
Department spokesman Seth Tyler said in an email that Elizabeth Ann Ramirez, 59, was charged with suspicion of second-degree murder. Ramirez had called authorities around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday from home near Chandler Boulevard and Kyrene Road.
First responders found an elderly woman not breathing and unresponsive in a bed. Investigators confirmed the body was that of Ramirez’s 80-year-old mother, Bertha Hermosillo Gutierrez.
According to police documents, Elizabeth Ramirez said she went to her mother’s house, they argued and she “snapped.”
Elizabeth Ramirez said she and her mother lived about a mile apart.
She was booked into Maricopa County Jail.
