PHOENIX — Arizona residents may be finding that it is easier to fill their kitchens with food without breaking the bank.
According to a survey from the Arizona Farm Bureau, food prices across the state were down more than six percent in the fourth quarter of 2017.
The survey showed that the total cost of 16 basic grocery items — such as various types of meets, oats, potatoes and milk — was $45.25 in the quarter, $3.25 less than the previous quarter. The fourth quarter prices were also four percent lower than the same time period in 2016.
Julie Murphee with the Arizona Farm Bureau said the only items that increased in price were sirloin tip roasts, eggs, vegetable oil and salad.
“While we’re in the new year looking back at last quarter’s food prices we’re getting a pretty good gauge of what prices will do in 2018,” Murphree said.
“We continue to encourage Arizona families to keep hunting for those bargains in our basics like your meats, fruits, vegetables, diary and eggs to stretch your food dollars.”
