PHOENIX — Another famed car will soon be up for auction in Arizona.
According to MotorTrend.com, Carroll Shelby’s 1966 Shelby GT350H will be put up for auction at Bonhams in Scottsdale, Arizona, later this week.
The car was originally a Hertz Rent-a-Racer and was purchased by the company in 1966 for $3,865. The car then went on a yearlong tour in San Diego, where it was rented for $17 per day at 17 cents a mile before it was purchased the next year.

The car’s second owner then took it to Vancouver, Washington, where they added a “1965 GT350 instrument pod, R-Model apron, valve covers, radiator, roll bar, R-Model wheels, and a rear spoiler,” the publication said.
In addition to all of that, underneath the Wimbledon White exterior with “LeMans stripes in Guardsman Blue” was a small-block 289ci V-8 engine, which was “mated to a three-speed automatic transmission.”
Shelby bought the car soon after and began the restoration of the project. He eventually returned the car to its original condition.
The car will be put on display in a Bonhams auction in Scottsdale on Thursday and is expected to bring in up to $200,000.
