PHOENIX – Although the holiday season is winding down, there is still time to check out one of the largest light displays in the U.S.
And it’s right here in the Valley.
Featured in The Phoenix Business Journal, the “Illumination: Symphony of Light” is a holiday attraction that allows visitors to enjoy the display of light from the comfort of their vehicles.
Synced to holiday music and videos, the display features more than a mile of holiday lights and displays off the Interstate 17 and Jomax Road.
To function, the display uses more than 25,000 feet of data wires and more than 80,000 feet of electrical wires to sync the music and videos to the lights, said Simon Kreisberger, one of the partner’s in planning the display.
A team of experts was assembled from all over the U.S. in order to make the display a reality.
“Illumination gathered all the technology experts from around the country to Arizona and pushed the Christmas light technology to the next level,” Kreisberger told the Phoenix Business Journal.
“Creating the symphony of light, which is basically a digital orchestra of lights, video and music.”
Nearly 10,000 LED lights — which can be customized to nearly 16 million different colors — were used in the display.
The project developers sought the help from Arizona’s Holiday Lighting Co. as well as other lighting specialists from multiple U.S. states.
The display is open from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. seven days a week through Jan. 14.
Tickets to enter the display can be purchased on the Illumination website for $29.95 as well as at the gate entrance for $32. A portion of the proceeds will go towards the Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
