Fans headed to Fiesta Bowl should expect Loop 101 traffic congestion

PHOENIX — Fiesta Bowl spectators can expect heavy traffic along the Loop 101 and officials suggest drivers get an early start to University of Phoenix Stadium on Saturday.
Loop 101 between Northern Avenue and Camelback Road is expected to be impacted the most since there are numerous activities planned in the area.
Parking lots for the game open at 9 a.m. with kickoff set for 2 p.m. as the Washington Huskies take on the Penn State Nittany Lions in the Playstation Fiesta Bowl. The game is Arizona’s biggest college bowl game this year.
“Get in early,” said Glendale police Lt. David Vidaurie. “You will miss the traffic. You’ll miss the rush. It’ll make your experience that much more enjoyable.”
Vidaurie said fans that plan to use cash lots for the game should exit Loop 101 at Glendale Avenue to get quick access to parking.
Two pre-game parties are planned in the morning hours at the stadium.
If you have a parking pass, Vidaurie said, don’t use a global positioning system to find your spot. Parking passes should have instructions on the location of particular lots.

“…It doesn’t account for road closures and restrictions,” Vidaurie said. “It might kind of get you into a bind.”
