PHOENIX — You won’t have to go up north for the snow this week, and it’s all thanks to the Arizona Science Center.
The center is bringing in more than 75 tons of snow for its annual snow week, which begins Tuesday and runs through New Year’s Day.
The snow will blanket the Heritage and Science Park’s grassy hills, which sit right outside the Arizona Science Center in downtown Phoenix.
“A lot of our guests never get a chance to see snow here in Phoenix – it’s really a rarity,” said Sari Custer, vice president of curiosity at the Arizona Science Center.
She said guests will get a chance to play in the snow after paying general admission into the Arizona Science Center.
Plus, they’ll also have access to interactive science demonstrations all week. It includes everything from explosion demonstrations with liquid nitrogen and building gumdrop domes to exploring geometry with leftover candies and making instant snow.
“We want you to come for the snow but stay for the science,” Custer said.
Guests will also get to experience ice-themed shows and movies in the Arizona Science Center’s planetarium and giant screen theater.
In addition, the Pompeii exhibition, which explores the ancient Roman city buried under volcanic ash more than 1,700 years ago, is still on display.
Custer said this is the fifth year the Arizona Science Center will host snow week.
“It has gotten bigger and better through the years,” she said. “So we’re excited that it’s continuing and growing.”
