Red Mountain 202 westbound reopened after fatal collision

PHOENIX – The westbound lanes of the Loop 202 Red Mountain freeway has reopened after it was closed at State Route 51 due to a fatal crash.
According to Officials, at 5:47 p.m. a pickup truck was traveling in the HOV lane on the westbound 202 when it rear-ended an SUV, causing a chain reaction involving three other vehicles.
The driver of the SUV was transported to a local hospital and passed away from their injuries. The passenger of the SUV was also transported to the hospital but with minor injuries, according to Officials.
All others involved were evaluated on scene and not transported.
Traffic from the westbound L-202 Red Mountain was routed to SR 51 northbound during the closure.
The crash caused delays while the investigation was conducted.
