TSA’s list of prohibited items: Do your travel items make the list?

PHOENIX — It’s the holiday season once again where thousands of travelers pass through Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix.

But travelers don’t always know what they can and cannot bring onto an airplane.

Lorie Dankers, a spokeswoman for TSA, said the agency wants to prepare travelers in advance for not only the Christmas holiday but also for two college bowl games, where officials expect high traffic.

For example, novelty items such as swords are not allowed on any flights.

“One way that we can underscore that is by showing the types of items that people bring in their carry-on luggage that’s not permitted past the security checkpoint,” she said.

“Anything with a blade, any oversized liquid, tools, canes, swords … you take a look.”

The list of prohibited items (shown in the video) continues to come through security.

And the lack of attention to detail slows everybody down, she said.

“We continue to see knives, all shapes, colors, sizes, anything with a blade is not permitted,” she said.

Most people that use a cane don’t even know there sometimes is a sword inside — but metal detectors know.

TSA has a list of what is prohibited.

Or, travelers can get real-time assistance by snapping a picture and tweeting your questions and comments to @AskTSA or via Facebook Messenger.

We want to hear from you.
