PHOENIX — Tempe-based Huss Brewing Company said Monday it was planning its second expansion in four years and was going to release a new beer.
When the expansion is completed, the brewery’s location near Elliot Road and Priest Drive will span 19,000 square feet. That is about a 66 percent increase in size from the 5,900 foot office space that the brewery started as earlier in the decade.
In 2016, the company acquired Papago Brewing Company which helped Huss Brewing become one of the three largest breweries in the state alongside SanTan and Barrio.
Size is not the only change coming to Huss: The company planned to curb its old signature brew called That’ll Do, and introduce its Copper State IPA as the new signature beer of choice.
Copper State IPA originally launched as a one-time specialty but, after positive feedback, was chosen to become a new year-round signature item.
The brewers hoped the new IPA would have a flavor more identifiable with Arizona. It has a lower alcohol content and several varieties of hops.
Its other top beer selections include the Scottsdale Blonde Kolsch, Magic in the Ivy Pale Ale, Koffee Kolsch, and Husstler Milk Stout.
