PHOENIX — In a recent survey on most caring cities by WalletHub.com, two in the Valley ranked in the top 25 out of the 100 cities surveyed.
Scottsdale scored the highest in Arizona at No. 17 and Gilbert ranked at No. 22.
Scottsdale received positive scores and was boosted to 17th after receiving the top ranking in the caring for the vulnerable category.
In the category, Scottsdale finished ahead of three California cities: San Francisco, San Diego, and Fremont. Gilbert finished fifth in the “caring for the vulnerable” category.
Gilbert received high scores for having low child poverty rates. First place in that category went to Fremont but Gilbert finished right behind it in second.
Of the Arizona cities on the list, four of the seven were ranked in the top 50. The other two in the top 50 were Chandler, ranked 32nd, and Mesa, ranked 47th.
Phoenix came in at 71, Tucson was placed at 81 and Glendale finished at 84, rounding out the rankings for the state.
One reason for the lower rankings were that Arizona cities received the lowest possible scores in the category of doing favors for neighbors. Phoenix, Mesa, Chandler, Glendale, Scottsdale and Gilbert all tied for the lowest percentage in the category.
