PHOENIX — A power outage at an Atlanta international airport will affect a handful of Valley flights, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport officials said.

The power outage at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Sunday halted all outgoing flights from the airport.

That has caused minor delays for Southwest Airlines flights at Sky Harbor, as well as one canceled inbound flight for later tonight.

The airline announced Sunday afternoon that it was cancelling all remaining operations in and out of the Atlanta airport. The regular service is expected to return on Monday.

Delta Airlines had three outbound and two inbound flights delayed at the Phoenix airport. American Airlines had one inbound and one outbound flight cancelled.

Travelers who will be affected by the outage and are traveling on Delta can change their flight without paying a fee or could get their ticket refunded.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport spokesman Reese McCraine said the outage occurred early Sunday afternoon. He said all airport operations are being affected and that outgoing flights were halted.

McCraine said some incoming flights are being diverted to other airports in the region.

Georgia Power said it was working to find out the cause and restore electricity. The company said the outage may have been caused by a fire, which caused “extensive damage” to an underground electrical facility.

Officials said in a statement that they expect to have the power back on by midnight local time.

The airport said on its Facebook page that departures were delayed because airport equipment in the terminals is not working.

The Federal Aviation Administration, meanwhile, has implemented a “ground stop” for flights headed to the airport. A ground stop means that flights headed to Atlanta are held on the ground at their departure airport.
