Crash leaves pedestrian dead near Glendale and 61st avenues

PHOENIX — Glendale police are investigating a crash that left a pedestrian dead near 61st and Glendale avenues on Friday night.
At about 6:20 p.m., a vehicle hit and killed the unidentified pedestrian near the Glendale intersection, according to Tiffany Smith, a spokeswoman with the Glendale Police Department.
In a statement, Smith said officers tracked down the driver of the vehicle after the individual tried to flee and left the scene. That person, who was not identified, is in custody.
As of 8 p.m., police closed the roadway on Glendale Avenue between 63rd and 59th avenues.
There is no other information available at this time.
