PHOENIX — Things will certainly be feeling much more like winter this weekend in Phoenix when there will be a decent chance for rain and temperatures will drop.
The National Weather Service called for a 20 percent chance of rain Saturday night that will increase to 40 percent on Sunday.
“Not heavy amounts, but definitely [rain] in the area,” meteorologist Jessica Nolte said.
The rain will bring some winter-like temperatures as well. The weather service said Saturday’s high will be 68 degrees, while Sunday’s will be just 61.
Overnight lows will be near 40 degrees.
Things will warm up a bit next week. Wednesday’s high was expected to be about 72 degrees.
Phoenix was not the only place in the state that could get rain. Much of Arizona’s high country could finally receive its first snowfall of the season.
“Sunday, we could at least see some flakes, flurries down through Flagstaff down along the (Mogollon) Rim and into the White Mountains and even the Sky Islands of southeast Arizona,” Nolte said.
However, the weather service did not expect a large amount of snow to fall.
“Snow amounts around the city proper, you’re looking [at] maybe an inch, maybe a little less than that,” Nolte said. “On the peaks there, maybe three inches.”
