PHOENIX — The Interstate 17 will be restricted overnight this weekend to allow for ongoing construction on a freeway bridge near downtown Phoenix.
According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, the southbound I-17 will be narrowed to two lanes near Seventh Avenue from 2 a.m. on Saturday to 5 a.m. on Monday.
Seventh Avenue will also be closed in both directions at I-17 during that time.
This restriction will allow crews to complete freeway bridge repairs and will continue over the next couple of weekends.
The bridge was first damaged in October, when it was clipped by an oversized truck that was driving on the street.
One of the structural beams that was used in the bridge’s framework was heavily damaged and has since been removed. Crews installed a new beam last weekend and will complete repairs over the following weekends.
