Sen. Jeff Flake believes Roy Moore left ‘lasting’ stain on GOP

PHOENIX — When asked if Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore left a stain on the Republican party, U.S. Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) didn’t hold back.
“I hope it’s not permanent, but it will be lasting,” Flake said. “That will be used by the Democrats. If we were the Democrats, we’d do it too.”
In an interview with ABC News, Flake spoke about Moore and the hurdles the Republicans would have had had he been elected.
When asked to expand on his “Decency wins” tweet following Tuesday’s elections results, Flake had this to say.
“I think this was a good result, paradoxically, it was a good night for Republicans,” Flake said.
“We have enough challenges as Republicans without being the party of Roy Moore. That would have been very difficult in the midterm elections and just to function as a party so it was a good night.”
In October, Flake announced he would not be running for Senate re-election in 2018, citing a divisive climate created under President Donald Trump as to why he was stepping down.
