Phoenix police talk down distraught woman from overpass

PHOENIX — Police said Monday morning that a distraught woman with a handgun was brought to safety after an hourslong standoff on an overpass.
The woman was standing above traffic at 35th Avenue and Indian School Road starting around 6:30 a.m. She came down around 10 a.m.
When officers initially approached her to talk to her, the unidentified woman pulled out a handgun, Sgt. Vince Lewis said in an email.
The roadways were shut down and nearby businesses were cleared out.
Streets were reopened after 10:20 a.m.
