PHOENIX — Thanksgiving is this week, which means people across Arizona are getting ready to cook up a feast, spend time with family and give a toast to all they are thankful for.
But Triple-A of Arizona wants to make sure Arizonans can make it home safely, even if they toasted a little too much.
The company is again offering its “Tipsy Tow” service for people across the state on the night before Thanksgiving, it said in a press release.
The “Tipsy Tow” service allows anyone — not just Triple-A members — to request a free tow up to 10 miles. The service will be offered from 6 p.m. on Wednesday to 6 a.m. on Thursday.
Arizonans who are looking to access the service can call 1-800-AAA-HELP and ask for a “Tipsy Tow.” The caller will also have to provide the driver’s name, address, phone number and vehicle location.
Triple-A spokeswoman Michelle Donati said the night before Thanksgiving is a “widely celebrated night at bars and restaurants.
“If you are planning to partake in drinking this Thanksgiving Eve, be sure you have a plan to get home safe,” she said. “If that plan falls through, give Triple-A a call and we’ll get you home safely.”
After 10 miles, Donati said, the driver will be charged a standard towing rate. “Tipsy Tow” also does not include roadside assistance for services like flat tires or dead batteries.
There has been an uptick in DUI arrests for several major holidays this year compared to last year: St. Patrick’s Day, Cinco de Mayo, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day and Halloween all saw increases in DUI arrests.
In response, Arizona law enforcement officials will be out in full swing for the Thanksgiving holiday. The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety will work with local police agencies on a holiday DUI enforcement campaign.
The campaign will include more 10 separate statewide task forces and 84 different law enforcement agencies who will patrol state highways, county roads and city streets. It will last through New Year’s Day.
