PHOENIX — The event is still months away, but Phoenix Comicon has already begun to snag guests with some serious star power. The latest addition to the list: William Shatner.

The actor — best known in science-fiction circles for portraying Capt. James T. Kirk on “Star Trek” during his long and storied career — will appear at next year’s event from May 24 to May 27.

People who want to sign up for a photo opportunity can sign up on Comicon’s website.

Shatner, 86, appeared on multiple television shows in both his native Canada and the United States, along with a few films and Broadway plays, before he was tapped to play Kirk in 1966.

The two-time Emmy Award winner has since become a fixture in entertainment and is still acting.

Prior to the Shatner announcement, Comicon said it had received appearance commitments from several cast members of the more recent science-fiction hit “Guardians of the Galaxy.”

Michael Rooker, best known for his role as Merle Dixon from the “Walking Dead” and Yondu in “Guardians of the Galaxy,” will be in attendance for Phoenix Comicon 2018. Along with Rooker, Sean Gunn (Kraglin) will also appear at the event. Both Rooker and Gunn will appear on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Fellow “Guardians” star and former pro wrestler, Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer) will make a one-day appearance at the event on Saturday.

Phoenix Comicon will run from May 24 to May 27 at the Phoenix Convention Center.

We want to hear from you.
