At least five dead, multiple hurt in northern California shooting

At least five people have been killed, including the suspected gunman, and at least 10 children and adults were wounded after a shooter opened fire in northern California on Tuesday, according to police.

The suspected shooter was killed by police. The Associated Press identified the shooter as Kevin Neal. But, officials have not yet confirmed the identity of the gunman.
Local law enforcement officials said multiple shots were fired at Rancho Tehama School in Corning, California, a small town about 130 miles north of Sacramento.
One student was wounded at the school and another child was shot while driving with a woman, who also was wounded, Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston said.
Local police said they are currently processing about seven different scenes where Neal opened fire.
Jeanine Quist, an administrative assistant with the Corning Union Elementary School District, said no one was killed at the school with kindergarten through fifth grades.
Three people were being treated at a hospital in Redding, about 50 miles north of the shootings, Mercy Medical Center spokeswoman Marcy Miracle said.
Enloe Medical Center said in a statement that five people were treated there and that three have been released. Spokeswoman Nicole Johansson said three of the patients were minors.
The Record Searchlight reported two more victims were taken to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital in Red Bluff.
It was unknown to what extent the victims were injured.
Johnston told a local news station that the school has been cleared.
“I know that we have children that were attending school in a safe location at this time,” Johnston said.
Johnston said the shooting began with a domestic violence incident at a home, but declined to provide more details about a motive.
