Rep. Steve Scalise challenges lawmaker to scooter race in US Capitol

Nov 9, 2017, 5:15 AM

House Majority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise isn’t letting his injuries from a shooting over the summer get him down.

Scalise recently challenged his colleague, Rep. Sam Johnson (R-Texas) to a scooter race in the U.S. Capitol — and boy, did things get intense.

Scalise has been using a scooter after he was shot by a gunman at a congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia, in June.

After a series of surgeries, the lawmaker returned to Congress in September.

The Louisiana lawmaker posted a video to his Twitter on Wednesday that showed the two gearing up their engines and taking off in the Capitol building.

But there was more to it than that: The video was shot using GoPro cameras fastened to the lawmaker’s scooters and was set to hardcore rock music.

The race took place at 8:10 a.m. on a Wednesday — an important detail for reasons unknown.

Scalise’s scooter was outfitted with a license plate that said “MAJ WHIP” and Johnson donned a helmet because safety first, obviously.

The two men shook hands before the race, like gentlemen, and then they took off.

The race was an intense one and the two men were neck-in-neck the entire time.

But who came out on top? You’ll just have to watch for yourself and see.
