PHOENIX — For the next two months, a short strip of Central Avenue will be closed in downtown Phoenix to make room for an annual outdoor ice skating rink.
Central Avenue was closed between Washington and Jefferson streets this week for construction of the CitySkate Holiday Ice Rink, which was scheduled to open Nov. 25 and remain in place until Jan 2.
The road runs through the middle of the CityScape development.
Like last year, skating will be broken into sessions — two or three per day, depending on the day of the week — to help control the flow of visitors and to maintain the ice.
Admission can only be purchased on site. Entry is $15, but military, seniors and kids under the age of 8 can get in for $10.
Children 3 and under will be admitted for free.
A limited number of $30 express passes will be available for each session. Holders get to skip the entire line.
Santa will make several appearances at the rink.
Parking is available at the garage underneath CityScape for $3 per hour — $27 is the maximum daily charge — try to snag a nearby meter or park at another garage.
There is also a nearby light rail stop for those heading westbound on Central Avenue and Washington Street, while those riding a westbound train can hop off at First Avenue and Washington Streets.
