PHOENIX — Valley law enforcement officials have one message for drivers this Halloween: Do not drink and drive.
Several Phoenix-area police departments will participate in a task force to locate people who were driving under the influence during the Halloween weekend, according to a press release.
Officers from the Chandler, Mesa and Scottsdale police departments will participate in the task force, which will start on Saturday and continue through Halloween night.
The departments will set up “saturation patrols” in the three cities over the weekend.
The officers who will participate in the task force have been trained to detect roadway impairment for excessive alcohol consumption and use of illicit or excessive prescription drugs, according to the press release.
The goal of the task force is to simply identify and remove impaired drivers from the road before a tragic accident could occur.
The task force has been funded by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety through its DUI Abatement Council.
