PHOENIX — Halloween is just around the corner, which means kids across the Valley will be dressing up as superheroes to go door-to-door, collecting candy.
But the city of Phoenix is offering a free self-defense class for children who are looking to become their own superheroes this holiday.
“Don’t Be A Victim” will be offered from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Ironwood Library in Phoenix. There will also be another class for adults from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Acacia Library in Phoenix.
City spokeswoman Tammy Vo said kids are encouraged to come in costume and learn how to stay safe while hunting down delicious treats.
“They’re going to enjoy learning and seeing demonstrations about what they can do and how they should always be aware when they’re doing things,” she said.
Vo said the class is not just for children: Parents can get tips of their own during the class, including how to make sure your kid is safe in their costume.
“If you’re going to dress your children in costumes that have these large masks, let’s make sure that it fits the child and is age-appropriate,” she said.
Parents who are looking to register their children in the course can do so here.
