PHOENIX — Nearly $1 million worth of marijuana was seized by an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper during an attempted traffic stop on Tuesday, the department said.
A state trooper made the discovery after pulling over a van driving northbound on the I-19 just north of Nogales, Arizona. The driver immediately fled the scene and was not apprehended.
The trooper discovered nearly 130 bales of marijuana in the van, weighing more than 2,600 pounds.
The estimated street value of the marijuana is $929,250, according to the department.
In a statement, an Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesperson said the department is “committed to disrupting criminal activity perpetrated by domestic and transnational criminal organizations in southern Arizona.
“We are certainly proud of the work accomplished by our people on this case.”
