Man admits to possessing child porn after Tempe business uncovers images

Oct 24, 2017, 4:00 PM

PHOENIX — A Rhode Island man has pleaded guilty to possessing more than 7,000 images of child pornography after a computer repair service in Tempe uncovered the images on a hard drive.

Joseph Seymour, a 39-year-old man from West Warwick, Rhode Island, acknowledged in U.S. District Court that he was in possession of more than 7,000 digital images or videos of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct in July 2016.

An unidentified computer repair service in Tempe notified the local police department that they discovered images on a digital hard drive that appeared to be child pornography.

The hard drive was sent to Tempe from Rhode Island. It is unknown why the hard drive was sent across the country.

Seymour was arrested in December 2016 following a search of his residence. He is scheduled to be sentenced in January.

Seymour’s plea comes days after a handful of Tempe residents were anonymously mailed letters containing child pornography. Police believe those images originated in Europe.
