PHOENIX — This week was not a good one for Phoenix-area restaurants.

Just hours after the downtown Phoenix restaurant Cooper’stown announced it was closing for good on Monday, a spokesperson with Z’Tejas Southwestern Grill confirmed three locations around the Valley were shut down.

The three Z’Tejas locations that closed were located at Sixth Street and Mill Avenue in Tempe, at Camelback and Scottsdale roads at Scottsdale Fashion Square and at 16th Street and Bethany Home Road in Phoenix.

According to the spokesperson, those locations were shut down due to a lack of performance. A location in Austin, Texas, will also be shut down. The closures put 145 employees in limbo.

Two locations in Chandler and Paradise Valley will remain open. The company also owns a Taco Guild at Seventh Street and Osborn Road, which will remain open.

The Scottsdale-based Z’Tejas, Inc. filed for bankruptcy to sell the company in 2015 after seeing years of declining sales. The company had more than $9 million in debt at the time of the bankruptcy, according to The Arizona Republic.

The restaurant was acquired by the Texas-based Cornbread Ventures after the bankruptcy. Gary Manley, the company’s new owner, said in 2016 that the restaurant’s Phoenix-area locations were “again operating profitably.”
